  2. I was both shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Rick. I had the honor to meet Rick at San Jose High during my senior year in 1977. And knowing his older brother Jess from playing baseball over the years with, I quickly learned that Rick had that something special in him, its hard to explain, but he was genuine. Great sense of humor, liked to joke around and very fond of his friends. Always said hello, always genuine. You will be missed my Bulldog Brother. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Cortez family. May you rest in peace. - Jim Diaz

  5. Jesse we have been friends for over 40 yrs, I remember when you and me owned the bar together and Rick came in one night and you weren't there, but we talked about how proud he was of his Big Brother and that he loved you and counted on you… I'm so sorry Jesse… I love you too brother

Sally I’m so sorry for your loss. I saw Rick a few weeks back at the park and I was telling Rick what a help you are to me at all the events, and he said to me “That’s my sister, she is the best person I know” and you have a heart of gold Sally that's how he felt about you

Amanda I remember when I first met you we were all there and Rick said to me at least 3 times that’s my sister Amanda from L.A look how beautiful she is.. I finally said Rick, I can see that see that, she looks like Jessica Alba…. I’m sorry Amanda

  8. My sincerest condolences to the Cortez Family.
I knew Uncle Ricky through his nieces, Tina & Anna. I always saw him as Uncle.

He always had the most positive attitude. I have countless memories of him. The one that stands out the most is him sitting at his moms kitchen table and he was eating. I dont remember what it was. But I do remember that me and Tina walked in and he offered us his food. He didn't take no for an answer. He was a kind and giving man.
I know he is in a better place now.

My prayers are with the family during this difficult time.
He is at peace now. Uncle Ricky will be greatly missed.

    Lots of love,

  9. Ricky was one of my coolest cousins but my best memories of him were, when we were kids playing two hand touch football in the middle of the street at a family gathering he always played quarterback for both teams so me and all of my cousins had a fair game! GONNA MISS YOU PRIMO! YOUR LIL COUSIN PHILL LOMAS!!!

  10. Wow, what can I say. Ricky and I grew up together since 1st grade. We spent many days at each others house. His Mom would make us the best tacos. Me and my brother would fight him and Hector when we were little and as we got older we were always the best of friends. I moved out of the neighborhood to Evergreen and who do I run into at 7-11, Ricky! We talked about old times and turns out his Mom lives right down the street from me. I give him a ride to Danny Moran's house and we stayed there drinking a few beers and having the best time. Few years later I see Orlando at Blues festival, few more years Jesse. Month ago I see Jesse at the cemetery and I ask how is my friend Ricky, he tells me he is doing the best he can. Now this sad news. Ricky had a lot of tragedy in his life, yet in spite of all that, I never knew him to be negative person. I am going to miss my friend, we were only a month apart in age.
Love you Ricky! God Bless you my friend!
God Bless the Cortez family as well, Jesse, Sally, Hector, Orlando, and Amanda.

  11. I remember the day I met Ricky! We became close friends then quickly after, we knew we were more than that, we were brothers! We were in school together and played football together! We had partied for 2 or 3 days sometimes! we would drink and talk for hours, but we never left each other behind! We got into some battles and defended each other not knowing what the battle was about! then we would walk away and grab another beer! We were brothers! We stayed very close till I got married! I've never forgotten my brothers that I grew up with! I carry them in my heart always! I'm sorry that I took so long to come and visit! We will see each other again my brother! 13. Our condolences to the Cortez family. May god's strength carry you thru this time. Rick will always be remembered in our hearts. He was a big part of our family, like a brother, almost a brother in law. He was always a joy to have around especially during football season. He never missed a Sunday coming over to watch the 49ers w/my Dad & brothers. He always had a warm caring side to him which always seemed to rub off on others. We love you Rick & you will always be in our Hearts forever. Much love; the Olivas family. (Diane Olivas)
